Crewman's Log August 18th, 2008

The new assignment is going well. I received quite a compliment from the Lieutenant on Friday. She said that "Fifteen minutes of work lost from you is a lot, you can do a lot in fifteen minutes." It is nice to know that I am making the right impression. However, I do not feel so good about my pay grade. I was wary of taking a cut in pay and taking an assignment farther from my quarters.

My apprehension was well founded. After re-working my budget over the weekend, I have come to the conclusion that I am nearly not making it. After deducting my existing financial obligations and necessities like gas and groceries from my pay, I am left with an average of $40 per month to do with as I wish. This means I'll be spending much of my off duty time either reading or catching up on my video game collection. There are games I've had for nearly ten years and never finished, or even played in some cases.

Speaking of times past, for some reason I started thinking about where I was one year ago. Looking back at some of the decisions I've made has given me some perspective on where I'm at today. And this song: does it bring back memories. Times forgotten by those involved, I'm sure.

Unfortunately I have an early duty shift tomorrow; 0700 instead of the regular 0800. I don't think the overtime pay will even make it worth it. Not for only one hour. I wish my window did not face east...
