Yes I realize I'm long overdue for a post. Been working on a couple of projects around the house like trying to help
akapinkie whip the yard into some semblance of shape. Not an easy thing to do given the size of our yard and the fact that it was both neglected by the previous owner(s) and also vacant for many months. So we try to do a little bit a time, which is frustrating but we try to remind ourselves that it's not all going to happen overnight and that we're going to be here for awhile.
Also been working on some tech related things. Verizon finally activated a cell phone tower in our area, so my signal and call quality has improved enough I'll try to call more (before I was basically confined to about 2-3 places in the house and even then it wasn't a sure thing). Trying to get a new battery for the laptop, and I've been playing around with a wireless card in it for the past week. This is one of the reasons I cannot stand Windows. The card works fine, I get great signal strength, but 99% of the time when I try to connect to a web page it's no good. When my mom has visited her Macbook has no problem getting a signal and connecting. If anyone can help (Running XP Pro with SP1) I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm also looking into getting an external HD for backup purposes and probably a new monitor. I say that because over the last 4-6 months, text on certain web sites and programs has gotten very hard to read for both
akapinkie and I. Mind you, this is on the same monitor from the system I bought nearly seven years ago (so it's about 3-4 years out of warranty), so I think I got my money's worth.
Saturday we were out at Lion's Park for a picnic with some members of the online forum
akapinkie is a part of. There wasn't a huge turn out but we ended up talking and hanging out until after 5 and the picnic had started at 11. I think everyone had a pretty good time. We're really hoping
akapinkie's folks will be able to fly out in a couple of weeks for a short visit , we'll see.
Job is going well, I've now been doing title about a year now and I feel pretty comfortable with it. There will always been something new to learn or figure out, but overall I think my boss and my client are happy with my work.
So that's life out here. We got our swamp cooler up and running earlier this week so that will help keep the house cool in addition to the ceiling fans. We're trying to figure out what house projects we want to try to have done in the near future (radon abatement, basement closet repair, window replacements, plumbing fixture, etc...) and what we want to wait on. Our garage door works so as soon as we finish getting the rest of the stuff in there sorted to the right rooms, Beatrice will have a roof over her head for the first time since we moved out here.
Miss you all lots, hope all is well.
