Drabbles of wrongness: Beside the Seaside (WK, Schwarzkinder)

Beside the Seaside

Schuldig lay back on his towel, contemplating his options. He could go kick sand in the face of a nine stone weakling, or allow pretty girls to ogle him, or stamp on little kids' sandcastles. A quick look at Farfarello's face as he watched Apple build a shaky edifice decided him against the third option.

The rest of Schwarz were boring. Pretty girls it was, he thought, springing to his feet. Time to abandon this freak-show.

The sand felt very soft. He looked down, puzzled to see that he had already sunk over his ankles.

With a shriek, he vanished.

In the park, Nagi pointed out the pathetic foibles of human nature. Akira continued sniffling, clinging miserably to his hand. Nagi led him over to a large fountain.

"Look," Nagi said, "Waves, Akira!"

Akira peered sadly at the waves gathering strength under Nagi's gaze. Other people came up curiously, wondering what on earth could have caused such a strange thing. Akira's sniffles faded away.

All the water in the fountain drew back, then rushed forward in a high curtain. It surged over the crowd, drenching everyone but miraculously missing Nagi and Akira completely.

"Again!" Akira shrieked, his misery forgotten. "Again!"

Crawford looked up as Schuldig screamed and slid into the pit cunningly dug by the Supreme Overlord. He was very proud that while other children might be constructing things of no value, his son was honing its hunting skills. Still, the Supreme Overlord had already had several treats, and any more snacks would ruin its appetite for dinner.

"Please don't devour your worthless prey, my master," Crawford said, looking with interest at what was happening at the bottom of the pit. "Schuldig! Stop using that sort of language in front of my child!"

"I hate you all!" Schuldig screamed. "Aiieeee!"

Farfarello sat contentedly holding candy-floss out for Apple to nibble. For every little bite she took, he took a rather larger one. It'd be bad for her teeth to have all that sugar. And it had been a long time since he'd had candy-floss.

"Can I play in that hole too?" Apple said, pointing a sticky, sand-covered finger towards the pit. Clouds of sand erupted from it, along with bursts of furious German obscenities.

"Let your cousin tire himself out first."

"Uncle Mary's not hurting him, is he?" Apple asked.

Farfarello stuffed his mouth with candy-floss to stop the laughter.
