The University of Lund aims to find out - “We want to find out to what extent domestic cats are influenced by the language and dialect that humans use to speak to them, because it seems that cats use slightly different dialects in the sounds they produce”, says Associate Professor of Phonetics Susanne Schötz.
But what meow-melody means "I'm a tiny kitten dying of starvation and I need sliced chicken NOW" in Swedish? Because I'm pretty damn clear what it sounds like in my mother's house.
