How was everyone's Valentine's Day? I had a great one, spent in Kobe with Julie at the
Coldplay concert!!
But let me back up a step:
Friday night Sam and I headed out to Sakaede, to Lindsay M's house for a girl's night sleepova. Also in attendance were Megan, Marty and Leah. We had wine and cheese, ate frosted pink cupcakes, swapped clothes and gossip, and watched the first act of Groundhog Day till we all got too sleepy.
It was incredibly fun and it put me in the best of moods. Thanks, ladies!
I woke up early on Saturday, as I was meeting Julie for the 10:45am ferry to Kobe. It was her first time to ride it, so I got to feel like an old pro. The ferry is a ridiculously great deal if you ride it in pairs, so we were off to a good start. We both slept through most of the ride, as I'd had a late night and she was still nursing a cold. We arrived at 2:30pm and, after ditching bags in a locker, headed over to Mosaic on the harbour for dinner. I'd had a vague recollection of a pretty decent buffet restaurant there, so we ventured forth and it was actually even better than I remembered. Chocolate fountain, yo!
After stuffing ourselves we taxi'd over to the venue and took our seats. We were toward the back of the hall and on an angle, low down but still with a very clear view of the stage. We agreed it was a good placement. The warm-up act, an Electronica group called
Jon Hopkins, was great and I really enjoyed it. Muuuuch better than the opening act for Radiohead, which had left us feeling kinda puzzled. Anyway, Coldplay was a little late in starting, but once they were onstage it was non-stop awesome. The show was similar to the one I saw in 2006, which is in no way a bad thing - they played Yellow and
did that thing with the balloons that makes my heart go SQUEEE. They also played The Scientist, a song which holds a special place in my heart*, made that much awesomer when he began it with "Came up to Kobe...". Eventually it was all finished though, having left me with a great impression of
the new album. Julie and I hurried through the merch line and then trained it into Osaka to our hotel. We stayed at a Capsule Inn, and it was great. Only 2500yen, and that included breakfast :O
Sunday morning was also early as we caught the 10:45am ferry again, this time back to Tak. We slept on that ride too, and then Julie dropped me off at the station. I caught my train and was home by 4. I got some dinner and then spent my evening catching up on the newest ep of BSG, and on the premier of
Dollhouse (verdict: I liked it, want to see more).
A good solid weekend, and one of the few after which I don't feel exhausted in my bones. Happy VDay!!
Oh, and you know I took pictures:
