Latest minor intellectual celebrity with an extremely small circle of admirers and readers, belonging to the "shedding of all personal belongings in favor of life in the desert with a neverending supply of peyote cacti" category: Jerry Mander, former Merry Prankster, current luddite, author of such books as "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" and "Sierra Club: In the Absence of the Sacred: The Failure of Technology and the Survival of the Indian Nations."
Probability you will ever hear this man's name mentioned by anyone: infinitesmal.
On another note, I came across the manifesto of Theodore Kaczinsky and read the first few paragraphs. The whole thing was basically a huge "technology is destroying the world" diatribe.
