My workshop talk went okay today. Actually several people told me it went really well, although I'm never sure whether "really well" actually means really well, or just that they know I was nervous and are trying to bolster my confidence :p At any rate, it got off to such a craptastic start there was really nowhere to go but up. I'd already loaded up my slides into slideshow mode so that I could just plug into the projector and go--they'd commented that we were a bit behind schedule because the 15 minute break turned into 30, and I thought I'd do my best to get us back on. So I come up to the front of the room, plug the projector cable into my VGA out...and the laptop freezes. It doesn't just fail to come up on the screen--that I could have dealt with--it totally locks up, no mouse, no function keys to change output, nothing. Hooray for my spiffy shiny new Windows 7 laptop, eh? At least while it was rebooting that gave me a chance to do the introduction and voiceover for the title slide so I could jump right in. After that, after losing a few minutes of my time slot to having to reboot my laptop, I only had room to improve :p
