Observations from my new front porch.

College kids really like rap music. And when I say they reallly like it, I mean they really like it. We recently moved into a house that's about a block away from campus and sitting on the front porch has been interesting to say the least.

Like the rap music. Every few minutes a car pulls up to the cross street blasting rap music out of their speakers. The white guys in their Honda Civics and Accords, the white girls in their Sunfires, and occasionally a group of black kids in an 80's era boxy car with spinners and an excellent stereo system. I didn't really want to type that last sentence because it seems like I'm stereotyping, but I'm honestly just writing down what I've seen in the past half hour.

Gym shorts and polo shirts seem to be the fashion this year. The guys walking through the neighborhood are all wearing polo shirts with horizontal stripes, and the girls wear short gym shorts no matter how cold it is outside. A lot of them also wear hoodies over their t-shirts as a concession to the frigid temperatures in the morning that give way to sweltering heat by midday.

This entry is starting to get a bit too banal for my tastes, so until next time.
