Once more unto the breach

School starts back up tomorrow. It was a nice three week vacation, one that seems as though it lasted forever while racing by at the same time.

Right now I'm signed up for 14 hours, but only 4 classes. Anatomy 201, Lation 202, Bio 111, and Chem 112. I'm not really worried about Bio or Chem. Latin has given me pause, but I proved the last semester that I can do well in there if I take the time to study everything and ignore the teacher's advice.

I'm trying to decide whether or not it would be a good idea to pick up an additional English class, which would take me up to 17 hours. I've shown in the past that I can get good grades with 17 hours, but I have a nagging feeling that I should just take it a little easier and focus on getting an excellent GPA in my science classes. I only have five more clases in English, and I could probably pick up the slack over the summer.

As it stands, I only need 10 more classes to graduate with a double-major after this semester. With summer courses and two semesters next year I should be in good shape if I can keep up my academic inertia.

I've also decided to take up a new instrument. For awhile I've wanted to learn either the violin (I've been wanting to learn that since I was about 4) or the piano. In the end it was price and lessons that decided me. I could get a sub-par violin for around $150-200, whereas there are decent Yamaha keyboards out there for around the same price. Plus I don't have to pay a tutor and I already know a bit from high school.

I picked up a Yamaha PSR-295. It's has 61 keys and touch sensitivity which is pretty nice. I'm about halfway through the Adult Beginner's book after a couple of days, and so far it's been pretty easy. The most difficult part is memorizing the names of the chords and getting down how to hold my hands, but even that isn't too difficult so far. The other shoe may drop as I progress, but for now I'm having fun with it. The keyboard will even hook up to my computer, but since I don't have any composing software (or any idea how to write music for that matter) I'm just sticking with the piano function for now.
