In my daily devotional Matthew 18:21-22 was the reading today. I do believe that God is speaking to me. I need to ask and to give forgiveness. That is what it is like to be human.
And here is the devotional message:
"How often do we need to forgive the same person? What a good question! Few of us would ask, simply because we want God to provide clarification. We don’t really want to be told a specific number. We get tired of shabby treatment and want to know how long God expects us to put up with it.
Imagine God asking, “How often do I need to forgive?” I don’t know about you, but I don’t want a limit placed on God when it comes to forgiving me. Keep those second chances coming! How curious that we reach our saturation point and want to bail on other people. As the recipients of abundant grace and mercy, we know what it feels like to be forgiven. Forgiveness heals us and makes us free to fly again. Holding onto grudges and past disappointments bogs us down. Hands clutching old resentments are not open to receive new gifts from God.
Relationships sometimes must change. Certain actions deserve consequences. Pain caused by someone else cannot always be forgotten. But, forgiveness remains an option-every time." Brian Abel
How long does God want me to put up with shabby treatment? If it is an infinite number, than I have a long way to go. I forgive you M for the pain and confusion you have caused in me. I make a decision today to be happy and to not let that pain rule my life. God has a time for everything and sometimes I am just not patient enough. I want what I want....NOW. But it is not to be.
