When I first started my - OMG I don't want to have diabetes - diet, someone told me that cinnamon would help with my blood sugar. I figured it couldn't hurt so I started adding it to my diet.
I have always loved cinnamon as I am sure many do. I have a reputation in the office of picking out the cinnamon salt water taffy from the big bags people pick up at SAMS and not eating any other flavor. I actually have a little bag full in my desk drawer because some people started saving them for me. I am doing very well at not eating those, but I wonder what I am going to do with them. I also prefer coffee with a cinnamon flavor.
At some point in my diet I got lax about adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to my protein drink once a day, until finally I stopped taking cinnamon altogether. With the new information I have read about it's benefits in getting rid of belly fat, and ability to lower blood glucose levels, I am trying to get back into the regimen.
It might be something to get my Mom to eat since she has gained so much fat around her middle. It is supposed to do all the miracle things like improving memory. Might be easier than crossword puzzles.
My blood sugar has gone up from the initial drop to 5.7 A1C after the first 3 months to 6.0 A1C after 6 months when I let up on my eating habits some what. A little rice here, I slice of pizza there, 5 glasses of wine in one evening and fruity calorie loaded tropical drinks with friends are just a few ways I pushed the limits. Now I am trying to stop all of that so I can enjoy an occasional glass of wine with friends.
Sometimes at home it is difficult because I don't think there is understanding of why I am on this eating regimen, which does not include the budget saving use of PASTA and BREAD. So I have just given in and eaten lasagna or some such thing for some meals, but I really cannot do that. An occasional serving of a whole wheat pasta, maybe.
Anything that might help is a positive thing. I love cinnamon, so even if this doesn't work, it sure isn't a hardship.
