Feeling the sand between your toes.

About three weeks ago I went to the beach with the grandchildren.  It was a blustery day near Cedar Point and the waves hit the beach with force.

Little N spent the first hour on the quilt we had spread over the sand.  He didn't know about sand and the beach.  I think in the end, Little M was having fun in the sand, so N decided he should chance feeling the sand slide between his toes too.
Once he was off the blanket... there was no stopping his adventurous spirit.  He wanted his toes in the water and he wanted to dig everywhere and when it was time to leave, he wasn't ready.
Sometimes we need to take that leap of faith.  Even though an experience is new or foreign we need to try it out and discover what it is like on our own.  Was that easier when we were children?  How and when did we develop the fears that keep us from enjoying new experiences.
Today I am going to take a walk in the woods.  I am going to set aside all the chores and obligations and take a walk among the beautiful autumn leaves with a friend.  A bit out of the ordinary for me to make last minute plans like this and to indulge myself.

friends, nature, grandchildren
