I did it. I gave blood to the Blood Bank this morning. It has been 2 years since I gave. Before that I was the coordinator for the county's giving. I set up the drives and stressed about how much was being given. I did that for many years. And I gave whenever I could. It is a GOOD thing to do. I felt a loyalty to the blood bank because of D being on the board, and way before that, they bought our building and saved us from destruction. After they had bought the building D volunteered as their fund raising coordinator. They sent him to a convention in San Francisco and a philanthropy school in Indiana. They hired B for summer employment and then full time after college. Totally a positive experience.
Of course the service they provide to the community is invaluable. Competing with the Red Cross isn't easy. They chew up and spit out smaller blood banks on a routine basis.
Then 2 1/2 years ago, the CEO hired D away from his job, so he could set him up to be fired and get him off the Board of Directors. I believe that the CEO thought D was a push over like the rest of the board. That's why he asked him to be on it in the first place. The classic work of an insecure bully-in-charge.
My point is... I don't want to support the CEO, but I do want to support the community by giving blood. In deference to D I didn't give. After a year and D having a great new job I thought he wouldn't mind my giving, but he DID. So, another year and I just went ahead and gave. It is for a good cause. This blood (unlike the Red Cross) will go to the people in need locally first and then will be sent farther a field.
I feel good having giving this morning.
