She was exhausted.

She hadn't been to sleep in at least thirty-six hours. First the case she was working, and then everything that had happened with her dad, but she was good and seeming lucid when she probably wasn't. It involved a lot of coffee and actually being on her feet, but that wasn't really relevant at the moment.

Cole was laying in bed beside Haley, fully clothed. Her being there was what kept him there. The only other place he wanted to go was to see his dad, but he knew nearly everyone was at the hospital, and he wanted to wait until it was quieter.

His lips were against the side of her forehead, and his hand was brushing her stomach softly.

He jumped a mile when the knocking came at the door. He groaned softly.

Haley hummed softly as she rolled over to press into him more, before looking up at him. "That's your door."

He kissed her lightly and closed his eyes. "Ignore it," he whispered. "She'll go away."

There was quiet for a moment, before the pounding came back again. "Cole! I know you're in there. You can ignore Sara-Rose, but you can't ignore me."

Haley smirked. "Clearly she's not going away, Cole."

He groaned again, but opened his eyes to meet hers. "Stay here...she won't be long."

Haley nodded, before curling up in the spot he left, waiting for him to come back.

Cole took his time getting to the front door. "Chill, Lizzie, I'm coming!" He rubbed his face. He really wanted to just stay in his room.

Lizzie took a deep breath as she waited, sliding her hands into her pockets.

He opened the door and gave his sister a look. "What?"

She shrugged. "Just checking to make sure you were still alive. Sar said you weren't answering your phone."

He shrugged back. "Last I heard you weren't anywhere to be found."

"Yeah, well, I resurfaced. And I always answered the phone when she called."

"Well..I'm here. What do you want?"

[dads_lilhacker]

"Dad's awake."

[momslittlethief]

"Yeah...I know." He looked down at his feet.

[dads_lilhacker]

She nodded. "Good. So get around there sometime. Other than that -- that's all I need you for."
