I know I will regret this, but this morning I took some time off, relaxing a bit, reading my friends' page, staying in my pajamas on the couch and cuddling with the kitties. I have tons of stuff that will fall on my head as soon as I open the work mail, but right now I don't have the strength.
I am tired and I am angry as hell about all the ugly stuff that is happening in Italy against Romanians, which is making the life of a lot of people difficult, if not impossible. I can't believe that there are Romanian children being severely discriminated at school by both companions and teachers, all over Italy, and nobody (other than Romanians) seems to find that strange. Friends of mine lost their jobs, are being treated like human excrement by those they work and live with. Romanians are attacked on the streets, their shops destroyed. You read graffiti against Romanians on the walls, if you speak Romanian on the metro, people start to look worried and keep their purses close to them. WTF is happening? The same day the woman over which all this hell broke lose has been killed by a Romanian (of gypsy origin), there have been several other homicides, among which a Southern American woman killed by her Italian companion. But it is as if somebody had been waiting for a pretext to start this wave of xenophobia against, specifically, Romanians. It reminds me a lot of the raging hate against anything Islamic after 9/11, to tell the truth.
The governors of both Italy and Romania aren't doing anything to help the situation, throwing oil on the fire on both sides.
Now, with the Islamic stuff, I know all the conspiration theories.. there are so many interests in there we common, miserable citizens will never even start to understand, from petrol to whatever.
But what the heck does Romania have which warrants this kind of campaign? A country which, while it certainly has its quota of criminals and not-nice people like every other one, sends out millions of underpaid workers which permit quite a few countries like Italy to produce cheap stuff and keep their elderly at home cared for by somebody whom you pay 300 Euro a month.. why does a country like that become public enemy NO 1 ??? Doctored crime statistics, specific media concentration on Romanian-perpetrated crimes, continuous attention to every misdemeanor from Romanians.. for months now this has been going on, and has culminated after that latest delict.
I don't get it. I have met these people, worked with them, slept at their houses, broke bread with them, made love to them. And less than ever can understand where this "criminal predisposition" crap comes from. Anybody care to tell me? Is there something I am to naive to understand?
