[ The other end of the line was quiet for a while. ]

What are the possibilities of the existence of another BREW-like tool?

[ Straight to the point. He doesn't bother wasting time for prologues. ]

There's none that we know of. The BREW is the only one of its kind.

[He doesn't see how Eibon could have made another one, when this one had taken so much effort to build. And it's even defective, wtf.]

( permavoice, private! ) I know, it's totally okay. <3 cashnotash August 3 2011, 15:45:45 UTC
"None that we know of"? Does that mean there's a chance that there's another one, or something that's similar to it, somewhere out there?

There's always a chance. Eibon was a very mysterious man. But we also know that he never made similar things twice, and there's nothing in his archives that suggests another BREW-like device.

Perhaps another person made it? Someone who's completely unknown to you and your colleagues?

That's possible. [tilts his head] But it would have to be a really hidden person, considering how Shinigami tracked special people for centuries... [Then again, the guy wasn't very forthcoming with his information, either.]

[ Shinigami tracked special people for centuries? News to him. Time to scribble it down somewhere. ]

Maybe they had some sort of power that allows them to conceal themselves from Shinigami. Or they'd existed long before Shinigami's time. Is that possible? Since when does Shinigami existed, by the way? Is it a hereditary thing?

[ Since, you know, there's Death the Kid... ]

That's possible... I'll have my guys investigate it, yeah? But Shinigami's been around for a thousand years! [Or a little less, but Spirit isn't the most specific guy around.]

And yeah, we're supposing it is. Kid displays a lot of potential for power, and he's just a kid.

Yeah. Can you keep me updated? I'd appreciate that. [ He's pretty sure they won't find anything since it's just some silly hypothesis he had, and he wouldn't even bring it up if Ran Fan didn't nag him about it, but hey, he can hope. ] I thought that he's a lot older than me. [ There's a hint of surprise in his voice. ] Is there another Shinigami who precedes him?

[ This entire thing is pretty absurd. Since Shinigami = Death God, Iceland always assumed that he's been around since at least the creation of humankind in this world. ]

I see. Do you think Shinigami started out like him?

I will! [Spirit will definitely do it if something comes up. He doubts if anything will, but you never know.] Well, you're a country, right? Shinigami is still mortal, I guess.

[It's just a name, Iceland...] I can't... really imagine him being a kid. But everything in history already shows him as he was. He might be a lot older than that, but he's always been a mysterious guy.

Thanks a lot. [ A beat. ] Thanks a lot for answering my questions, too. [ A bit sheepish because, come on, he's been bombarding Spirit with incessant questions. ] Right. How come a Death God is...mortal? Shinigami is a Death God, right?

[ It just seemed contradictory, ironic, and he's trying to wrap his head around the concept. Although the notion of a mortal god isn't brand new to him. ]

That's okay, I can't imagine some people as little bratty kids either. Like you. [ Well, now he'd started to tease Spirit. But it's true. He can't really imagine the deathscythe as a kid. ] Can you tell me about Eibon, then? And maybe other special people Shinigami was keeping track of.

No problem. [chuckle] I had thought that Shinigami was immortal, but then he died last year... that must mean he wasn't, right?

[But that one makes him laugh and he points at himself.] I was a pretty stressed out kid, actually! With a partner like Stein, it was inevitable.

[chinrub] Well, see, about eight hundred years ago, Shinigami formed the Great Eight, a group of meisters and weapons tasked to protect the world from the kishin. He was at the head of it, Eibon was a meister and inventor that was a member of the group, and so was Asura. Asura consumed his weapon, Vajra, and three of the Great Eight, and became the first kishin. There aren't a lot of records about the other four, except that they're all either dead or unaccounted for. I'm not... really good with history, though. [sheepish]

Obviously. But there's a possibility that he's actually immortal, and thus, still alive, but was completely weakened and lost his memories or something along that line. Maybe he transferred all those powers to Kid.

[ That's what he aimed for, man. It makes the entire conversation less...business-like and stiff. ]

I'm sorry to hear that. At least you managed to survive and become an adult?

[ There's a considerable amount of pause after Spirit's explanation, but not completely silent since there's scribbling sound in the background. He's busy jotting it all down. ]

That's okay, that's enough for now. I've got it all written down. Thanks again.

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't! There's no way for us to know right now, yeah?

[chuckle] He wasn't so bad once he got the hang of not dissecting fellow students.

Eh? Oh, you're welcome.
