Melou's actually in a good mood today. And, of course, when Melou's in a good mood, it means he's walking around with a smirk on his face and looking (and acting) like a cocky arrogant bastard. At the moment, he's also looking extraordinarily pleased with himself

At any rate, she's training out in the clearing, if Melou wants to gloat at her... and possibly get eyebrow'd at.

Melou wanders into the clearing, and he's actually smiling. (Well, smirking might be a more accurate description. But still).

"What are you doing?" he asks, when he spots Anita.

He can see what she's doing, of course. He just wonders why she's training instead of paying attention to him.

The smirk gets Melou a raised eyebrow, but Anita doesn't really interrupt her routine. It's part of her philosophy - teach them younguns to respect what others are doing.

When she's done, she says, idly, as she reaches for her water, "The obvious, kiddo. What's got you all hyped up?"

Straight to the point. She's predictable that way.

"Nothing," Melou says, but with a knowing smile that says it definitely is something. He's just not telling her what it is.

Anita opens her mouth to say her usual quip - stolen from her now long disappeared friend Sam Spade - she wants to know if he swallowed a canary.

"..... Right," she says, and makes sure she pretends not to be overly curious.

"Aren't you even going to ask?"

He wants her to ask again so he can refuse to tell her. Again. Because it's funny.

Anita kind of knows by now, though. So she grins.

"Nope."

Melou is actually grinning, too. He looks ridiculously proud of himself.

"So you don't even care?"

"Couldn't care less." Still grinning.

Anita is lying, of course.

"That's not very nice."

He's still grinning, too.

"Never intended to be," Anita drawls. She takes a swig of water and waits.

Man, this is weird.

Melou leans against a tree and looks smug. "So you're being mean to me? Deliberately?"

This is incredibly weird, Anita would like you to know. She keeps up the game anyway.

"Yes."

"I'll tell my father."

Not really. Melou is actually... joking.

"Feel free," is all Anita has to say.

She sits on a branch, puts the water down, leans against the bark.

"Alright, out with it, kiddo. Whose canary did you swallow?"

"What?"

He's actually pretty sure he knows what that question means. He just doesn't want to answer it.
