(open) paying in naivety

Melou's actually in a good mood today. And, of course, when Melou's in a good mood, it means he's walking around with a smirk on his face and looking (and acting) like a cocky arrogant bastard. At the moment, he's also looking extraordinarily pleased with himself ( Read more... )

He wouldn't stop being gleefully snarky about it.... We'll send someone more congenial momentarily.. silvereyedphage March 4 2012, 07:01:57 UTC
It's nearly New Years, and Muraki has been in the woods, clearing the snow off the Stone Table, preparing for a New Year's ceremony (a Circle Ritual of his own devising, culminating in striking a rim-gong one hundred-eight times, though he'd be the first to admit he's been working his way through many of those one hundred-eight sins which the gong strikes represent...). He's carrying a broom over his shoulder and singing an elemental chant half under his breath, half aloud, in his odd light baritone voice.

Spotting Melou, he'll pause, smirking a bit. "Someone looks like the cat that got into the cream," he says.

Usually, Melou would get angry at a comment like that (mostly because it's coming from Muraki). But today he just looks haughty.

"What are you doing here?"

That haughty look just makes Muraki smirk all the more annoyingly as he pauses. "Oh, I was merely doing some cleaning for New Year's Eve, brushing away some snow," he says.

"Well, I think you should go somewhere else," Melou tells him.

"Mmmm? And where would you have me go, oh noble little lord of the manor? I do need my morning constitutional in the fresh air," he drawls.

"Perhaps you could try the bottom of the lake," Melou suggests, coolly.

He chuckles, dryly. "That would be a little hard to achieve: it's been cold and the ice is grown very thick by now," he says.

"So? You could make a hole in the ice and jump in."

"And make me do all the work?" he says, tsking. "Weren't you taught to respect your elders?"

Melou snorts. "I'm sure you could find someone who would be willing to help you."

He figures there must be plenty of people here who hate Muraki, since he's so annoying.

"But in doing so, the Mansion would lose one of its most gifted physicians," he says, blithely. "I would be rather missed here." Though of course, he doesn't mention Tsuzuki and the bankful of bad blood between them.

Melou snorts. "Do you really think anyone would miss you?"

That's the most ridiculous thing he's ever heard.

"You'd miss me the moment that you're injured and there's no one to stitch you back up again," he says.

"There are other people who could do that," Melou says. "Besides, I'm not going to get injured."

"Mmmm, keep running off your mouth like that, particularly to the wrong person, and you just might," he says, flippantly.

Melou tilts his head, looking completely unconcerned. "Are you threatening me?"
