The Lions were purchased by William Clay Ford, Henry Ford's grandson, on November 22, 1963 - the same day JFK was shot. That day was perhaps the "highlight" of Ford's ownership of the Lions. No Lions coach for almost 40 years has ever been a head coach for another NFL team once they left the Lions. The Lions have yet to draft a QB that played in the Super Bowl. Only one QB that ever played for the Lions went on to play in a Super Bowl. The Lions are the only team to have a player die on the field during a game. The Lions were the first team to lose to an AFL team. The Lions were the first, if not only, NFL team to lose to a college team. The Lions have been marked by over 4 decades of mismanagement, bad decisions, incompetence and plain old bad luck.
