The reformation of InoShikaChou really brought back memories of the good ol' days. Getting together with my old friends for a drink is one thing, but fighting together like that again... It feels good to know none of us have lost our touch despite standing more to the sidelines of the ninja business now.
As soon as things cleared up, I quickly ran to Nara's house to check up on my wife. I found Ino there too. Apparently she had been poisoned by some rat-nin whose remaining lifespan runs from this moment to however long it takes for me to hunt them down!! but luckily the deer medicine took care of things. Asuma dropped by later and I demanded where he was when my baby got injured found out he had saved Shikamaru while Kurenai had helped take care of Ino's injury back at the stadium. I invited him to stay for a drink, but apparently he already had plans for that.
We all stayed the night at the Nara home. Quite crowded, but we did alright. Adults stayed up talking most the night in-between the good social drink. (My wife slept on the floor next to Ino in Shikamaru's room while Choumaru and Shikato's other halves shared the master bedroom. The boys took the living room while us men took wherever else we could get. I think Choumaru ended up on the kitchen floor, but didn't seem to mind--called it "soothing"; go figure.)
...
I'd heard about Hokage-sama. If Asuma hadn't told us, I would've found out through the large, demanding order for the funeral floral arrangements that came to the shop the next day. It's not the most pleasant part of the job, but it's always to be done with deep respect and thought in mind. Flowers can really set a strong mood, even if only through subtle messages. It's an honor to be trusted with such responsibility, but also a little stressful. How to select the perfect representative...
Looking around outside, you truly see there's no rest for those who live in a shinobi village. Even though it's only the day after and after so much loss, everyone's working. Recoveries, repairs, treatment, comfort, clean-up... Name it and it's probably being done.
I can't help but smile a little at it. If you were to look at us from outside of our situation, we're the very image of a ruined town. Massive property damage, many good shinobi and friends lost, and most significantly of all the death of our Hokage... By all rights we should be crumbling upon ourselves.
But we're not. There's an unexpected strength to Konoha that's more than just an exceptional generation of genin. It's something that exists in everyone here... A strong will and faith that simply cannot be diminished.
...
You know, I think I just realized what's going to be the perfect representative.
Let's see, they should be here somewhere... Ah!
The white, Chinese Mum. White usually stands for things like purity, simplicity, honestly, and underlying strength and devotion. The Mum means hope. It suits not only Sandaime-sama, but all of us, and his dreams for Konoha.
This united pure and honest hope.
