a little somethin' somethin'

man im a good consumer. how many nights find me after dinner with a pit in my stomach standing in for a pit in my soul? i have to have something. i need a drink. pabst me!
my father always said we live in a beverage society. back in the early days of livejournal--early for me anyway--there was this girl, a friend of some friends, who had a journal called sodapopculture. exactly.
last july, i was far-sighted enough--visionary even--to record every beverage purchase i made one wednesday. here it is, complete with notation on place, price, and circumstance.

im not saying im an alchoholic. but what i suffer from may be something akin to alchoholism. whatever it is, it stems from the need to be holding something. this is different from my desire for caffeine--coffee, tea, or chocolate--which is actually rooted somewhere in the monkey part of my brain, and is a very chemical, addictive need. the desire for a drink--any drink besides water--is more manipulative. it rests on the palm of the hand and the tip of the tongue.
