New Year's Eve saw me at my Finish friend Amy's house for a small dinner party along with her Welsh boyfriend and afew Swedish friends. After dinner, a large contingent of Australians turned up, plus
mzdt and friend. It was all getting very international by this point, and it was quite nice that none of the people crammed into Amy's tiny studio flat knew everyone else. I had a chance to catch with people that I hadn't seen since going away for the summer, and there were lots of questions about New York and how I got on there, which felt strange because it feelsseems so long ago now.
At 11 o'clock I tried to rally the troops to get everyone to walk to Hampsted Heath in time for midnight. Some people came, some didn't, and we lost afew more along the way, but it was fine. At midnight, we stood on the heath and watched fireworks going off across London whilst drinking champagne in plastic cups. In the distance, it looked as though the London eye was on fire, or maybe that was just wishful thinking. Amazingly, we found the lost members of amongst all the people on the heath (it was quite busy up there), so we all tramped back down the hill together. It was definately my best New Year's Eve since moving to London, stress free but nicely random. I think I might repeat the Hampstead Heath thing next year if people are game for it.
I'm feeling optimistic about 2008, there are lots of things to look forward to, starting my new job, recording an album with Scarlet's Well and moving to a new house for starters. I'm starting to think about travel plans for this year, feeling a bit sad that I don't have anyone to make them with, but I have nowhere near exhausted my list of friends who have or are soon to move to a European city who I can go and stay with, so there are quite afew options there. I can't wait for this winter nonsense to be over with, to get into spring and feel the warmth of the sun on my face again.
