I'm watching these London Olympics but I must admit to not being too hyped about the summer games. I think NBC's prime time coverage is extremely weak, so I'm really only half watching. I have no problem watching tape delayed events as long as I don't know the result in advance. My problem is the lack of options, they only have one evening broadcast. Last night and tonight you had to watch gymnastics. I respect the skill of these athletes, it's just that judged events are not my favorite.
I thought it was hilarious that Mitt Romney stumbled over his own snotty self in London. What kind of diplomat takes a shot at the city and people hosting the games? No diplomat. Romney is an asshole for openly doubting the organizers. Even if you feel that way, you just don't say it. There's no gain in criticizing your hosts, especially before the games have begun. Is he really this clueless? Yes, he is.
During the day, when 90% of viewers are at work, NBC uses a few networks to cover live events. I watched fencing over the weekend, archery and badminton. It might be four years before I see them again, so I better get my fill. The fencing was too fast, they score on ever parry. I want a swashbuckling sword fight with style and flare. You know, Errol Flynn stuff.
Two athletes have been suspended from the games for tweeting offensive remarks about other races or ethnic groups. A Swiss man and Greek women thought the world needed to know about their prejudice. I really don't like Twitter, but I'm beginning to see the benefit in how it can instantly expose stupidity. They're calling these the social media games.
The empty seat controversy is dogging the organizers. People can't get tickets to popular events but the broadcasts show hundreds of vacant seats. The IOC gives thousands of tickets to corporations and sponsors who don't use them. They go to waste while fans are shut out of the contest. That is stupid beyond belief.
So I'm a bit miffed about NBC's decision to remove our viewing options in the evening and force feeding us the few events one NBC channel can cover. I don't mind swimming, but I don't need to see every aquatic event. The USA does well in the water so we get every damn race. I would like to see boxing, basketball, cycling and soccer. I checked the schedule, those events are all happening today, but not for me to see.
It's not London's fault, it's fucking NBC.
I prefer the Winter Games, always have. I hope NBC doesn't have the 2014 Sochi games. The only thing they'll show us is figure skating and curling. I think I'm going to flame their network Facebook page for the Olympics, you know they have one, because it's the social media games.
