October Brings Happiness

The heat has finally broken. We're seeing temps in the 70's & 80's, cooler nights, the AC is not running and it's a pleasure to be outdoors. This summer was a record breaker in Phoenix. We had more triple digit days than any previous year and many daily records were broken. It seemed the summer would never end.

We even had a dust storm this week, unusually late in the season, that resulted in a huge accident on the freeway. More than thirty cars and trucks were involved, 1 dead and 18 injured. Midway between PHX and Tucson there's a place called Picacho Peak. Interstate 10 runs through a small valley alongside the mountain. For some reason there are always horrible crashes on that stretch of road. There have been two massive fatal accidents this year involving dozens of cars ..... dust, rain and poor visibility are always a factor.

Today is the first day of a four day weekend. James and his mom took a trip together to New Mexico. Cheryl and I have the house to ourselves, well, ourselves a dog and a cat. We have plans for local fun but for the most part we're going to enjoy the quieter house and not being caretakers. We're dining at our favorite restaurant in town, Durant's. We're planning a day at the race track to watch the horses run. Maybe I'll get lucky. I mean at the track, betting on a pony.

For the next 7+ months there will be much more outdoor activity. The bikes will be dusted off. We'll do some hiking. Mikey will get more exercise. I might actually complete my patio-garden project.
