I haven't posted in long time. There's no reason, just the dog days of summer. When it's this damn hot I like to cook outdoors to avoid heating of the kitchen.
All year I've thought about retiring my old gas grill. It's nine years old. Because I don't have a lot of money I try to make things last by taking care of them. I disassemble the important parts every year, wire brush all the ash and charred meat remnants, wipe off most of the greasy mess and reassemble for another year of grilling. I've replaced all three burners, the electronic ignition and the gas hose. I've reached the end. The grill doesn't owe me a nickel but it's no longer worth rebuilding.
I finally broke down and bought a new Char Broil Red. I was very pleased with the deal. The price of grills has gone down a lot since my last purchase. This new infrared grill cost 2/3 of what my old unit cost. That was a deciding factor in making the purchase.
I use the grill for everything, meats, veggies, grilling or baking, and of course I have my smoker for the all day low and slow BBQ. With three burners and a good temperature gage any grill can be controlled as well as an oven.
There just hasn't been much going on this month.
Our friend Mayor Bob recently spent another week in the hospital, his sixth round of chemo, but he looks pretty good considering the battle he's fighting. We see him almost every week .... and we try not to wonder how many more Friday happy hours we have with him.
I have nothing to say about the bullshit budget baffoonery in Washington except the system is broken. Stop mailing Social Security checks and watch how fast tea baggers will want a budget deal. They whine about government spending but they won't give up the socialism they get mailed to them every month. Hypocrites.
I don't care to opine on the tragic events in Norway. It will only make me angry at intolerant extremism and the nature in which world citizens and the media handle violent news. There is such a thing as too much information. where the overhype and speculation reach a point of voyeurism.
The news of Amy Winehouse was sad but not too surprising. It's a shame to see a talent lost needlessly to addiction. That theme is repeated over and over and the tragedy is no less each time.

When the outside world is too much to ponder it's best to make your world smaller, enjoy the little things, your people, your town, or whatever makes you smile ..... like a new grill.
I helped the economy, we have tasty meals, and I got a sweet deal.
