Just to the right of the name of the nano is a disconnect button with an up arrow. (Or you can click the disconnect button on the iTunes screen to the on the lower right. It should be the far right buton on the bottom) You click on that. You might want to change the name of the nano too. To do that just double click on the nano name and type in the new name you want. Voila

After you click the up arrow, the nano may still say do not connect. It'll be ok as long as everything's been updated. If the computer says it's ok to disconnect it, disconnect it. It shouldn't cause any problems.
that was what happened. The computer told me it was okay but the Nano was telling me it wasn't. I finally got daring and unplugged it anyway. It all came out fine. I have to sit in the Dr. for at least a couple hours today. Now I have some Country music to listen to
