Long Rant

Today's Theological Thursday discussion basically confirmed my affirmation on how American Society within the 21st century views Marriage.

While I most of the time take a liberal stance, even more to say a Protestant stance on certain discussions pertaining to the study of Theology, I happen to take a very Catholic Conservative stance on Doctrines pertaining to the Sacraments and furthermore pertaining to the Life of Christ(Christology) and even further one could say that I am Conservative when it comes to the Doctrines of the essential Christian beliefs.

While I could write a 20 page paper on my stance of the basic Christian beliefs in the view of Catholicism and also write a paper pertaining to my views of Christology I am going to stay on the subject of Marriage due to the fact that, that is the "thesis" of today's journal entry.

I believe that today's version of marriage in American Society has become an vendee's event. Today Marriage is more about the actual consumerism and commercialism of society. It is an old tradition in Weddings for people to give gifts to the bride and groom. This makes the mark of the beginning of Consumerism for weddings. This developed throughout time and as propaganda advanced; magazines, newspapers, and by the 1960's the television we see commercialism taking place in the Marriage process. I can almost guarantee that if you watch television for at least 1 hr a day out of the 365 days a year that you have seen at least once in your life the commercial for Dave and Bridal. This is a perfect example of consumerism and commercialism working hand in hand in the Marriage process. You will notice that the advertisement states that they have bridal dresses starting at $99.00's.Also the total cost of the wedding today has increased on average about $27,000 dollars in the last decade and a half(http://money.cnn.com/2006/02/10/pf/weddings_costs/index.html)

Wait for part 2 on Saturday its 1:30 in the morning and I have a 9 am class. FML.
