Hahah! No. The person to whom this post is directed will know what I mean if they see it. I'm not entirely sure she reads my journal.
Long story short, my new roommate's mother is not accepting his moving out very well. She called the cops on us saying we were, like, holding him against his will, or feeding him drugs, or something. Which, of course, is bullshit.
And the cop could tell it was bullshit when she got here. Mitch was off at work, we showed her the house, talked to her for a while, told her the truth, and that was that.
Oh *really*? What are housing prices like up there? We might have to move soon and we've been thinking about Willits or somewhere else up there. I'm a Santa Cruz native but it's too expensive there now. I've been priced out of my hometown. ;.; But anyway, we don't like Vacaville and since we might have to move again anyway, we've been looking northward for ideas. We especially miss the forest; redwoods, mushroom hunting and the like.
Willits is a good three hours from me, at least. Maybe more.
Sadly, Cali is expensive all around. The pricing here is certainly lower than say, San Fran or LA. It's about $600 for a one bedroom... A little cheaper for a studio, usually.
The downside is, it's hard to get a job around here and jobs pay crap. I had a high paying job but it was awful, so I left to go back to school. Now I'm struggling big time.
Most people make money selling pot. It's like... the total support of our economy. x_x Beautiful area but I can't wait to move, personally.
We're all disabled except Mitch and work is pretty hard to find here, too, so that's not as big a deal. I was talking about buying, not renting; we currently own a pretty big doublewide straight out and we'd be bringing about $100k or something to put down. Mom was hoping to get another mobile home.
Somewhere in Humboldt pretty much for certain, yeah. We're unquestionably moving and your county is at the top of our list. It's Santa Cruz County, except cheaper! XD
Want my opinion? That's way too much for a studio here. I mean, I'm lucky to only have to pay $475 a month for a large one bedroom. But you can usually get a one bedroom for about $650 a month, so that studio is grossly overpriced. Plus it's in McKinleyville which is in the middle of nowhere. It's harder to get around up there unless you don't mind driving all the time. Somewhere in Arcata or Fortuna, or better yet Eureka is more ideal. I'm in Eureka which is like the hub of the county, where the mall is, etc. I actually know of a place or two that may be renting if you'd like me to look into it.
To me, it's a bargain. One word: Oceanfront. To me, that's a privilege I'd pay a hell of a lot for. Plus the river? Oh my god, it's a dream spot for me. The whole idea is to be in the middle of nowhere. :p It reminds me of where I grew up. I want to be a place I'm going to enjoy just existing in which the two of us can also afford. But I'm going to be looking around in person as well as Craigslist before I make any solid decisions
( ... )
Well two things you should know as far as your concerns. Gas is 4 bucks a gallon here. It's also harder to get a job around here. If he's expecting 10 bucks an hour, you may want to save more first. Jobs are crappy here, but with some luck you can get a job based on experience you've had. But most starting jobs are minimum wage.
Anyway, don't let me discourage you, of course. Perhaps you already knew all this. But watching costs is definitely something to consider. And usually utilities are partially included in the rent price. Like with my rent everything but electricity is covered, but that's not high. I pay about 20 a month for that, sometimes less. Gas is higher, of course.
But yeah, it's good that you're researching, though. Look at theeurekareporter.com and the-times-standard.com for more rentals and such. Good luck! That'd be pretty cool if you were up here. We'd definitely have to meet up. I'm even starting a writing group here which you should totally join. ^^

So many people don't know there's anything between San Fran (or Sac, in your case) and Oregon. It's like, that's just a big open void. XD
