Very sorry to hear that. I was talking with someone about his comics just this past FC. I hear he was an awesome guy. :/

Does anyone know how he died and why are we just now hearing about this loss??

He had heart problems last year, but I don't know if that was a factor in his passing.
His family or friends may not have known about JP's out of town friends and acquaintances he kept in contact with, and as a consequence didn't think of passing to them this news about his death. I haven't given my family or friends any details about anyone I associate with when I go out of town, so if (in Laredo) I became incapacitated, or worse, anyone not here wouldn't get any news about me for a long while either.
