I watched 'Hellboy' tonight with Myth. It was interesting seeing it a second time after reading the comic books. I really like the palette of the movie, very close to Mignola's work.
I'm a little apprehensive about seeing 'The Spirit'. I love Will Eisner. I remember reading 'Comics and Sequential Art' back in the early nineties and thinking he was a genius. 'Sin City' and '300' were beautiful movies. I haven't read much of Frank Miller's work besides his Batman stuff, but I dunno about making 'The Spirit' look like these movies. 'The Spirit' probably should have been done to look like the Dick Tracy movie, primary colours and forties feel. But who the heck wants to see another Dick Tracy, right? We'll see, we'll see.
As a funny footnote to this post, I remember sending in a mailer to this newish comic book company, Dark Horse Comics. It was 1991, and I was sending out photocopies of my dragon comic strip to everyone, publishers big and small. A few months after sending out the mailers, I got a typed out letter (not a form letter) from Dark Horse telling me they did not publish 'anthromorphic' comics. Man, did I laugh. Wish I still had it; I think Ivy threw out all my rejection letters.
