so i went to NY again today. i had to go to the gravesite of Maud Glover Folsom so i could get scholarship money for a scholarship i got. you have to be a male of german and english descent to get it, and you have to visit the gravesite every year on july 20 in NY with all of the other current folsom beneficiaries or else they kick you out. they have 400 applicants a year, and i was one of 12 people chosen this year. we get 5 grand a year paid to us for as long as we are in school. we can use the money for anything, my money is going to my parents for school to help reduce the costs, and the cost really has gotten quite low for what started out at 43 grand for the first year. we arent even paying a quarter of that anymore. woohoo. at the cemetary we all had to stand up and accept our check and say where we are going for college and what we are going to be majoring in. two people decided to brag about being valedictorians and one of them bragged about being the top male athlete at his high school. wooooooow we cared. i decided humility was a better route and just said i'm going to rpi to major in math and chemical engineering and that was it, none of this "i was awesome" crap. just give me my money and let me get out.
i have made so many trips in the past 10 days its insane. july 10 i went to connecticut to have the interview for the scholarship i got. we got up at 4 am and then got back home at about 5 pm. that was a fuuuuunnnn day. ya right. july 13-15 i was in troy, ny for orientation, which i enjoyed, but there was still a 4 hour trip in both directions in the car. then AGAIN yesterday my mom and i drove out to ny near NYC, stayed in a marginally ok hotel, and then went to the service today and got home at 430 after another 4.5 hour drive in both directions. then this sunday i'm leaving for ski camp. i'm going to be on a plane ALL DAY LONG. i get there at like 7 am for my 8 am flight and then finally end up in portland at 5 o clock our time, so 2 o clock their time. i have a layover in chicago for a large amount of time, and i'm going to be exhausted when i arrive but everyone else will be all woohoo 2 o clock lets have fun!!!! and then i have to come home the following saturday. so over the course of 3 weeks i'm going to be spending waaaaaaay too much time in a vehicle traveling somewhere. oh well, its all worth it, and i'm going to absolutely love ski camp.
exchanging summer for another winter, my idea of a perfect trade.
