so senior awards night tonight. i got:
valedictorian medal (this thing is fuckin huge) ...it feels like a midget is hangin' from my necklace...
NHS gold tassle and gold rope
theoretical math award
physical (physics and chemistry) science award
dover high school mathematician of the year
perfect score in algebra 1 at the state math meet award haha
national merit scholar nomination thing (not really anything important)
ski team scholarship
anthony stavroula janetos scholarship
and i presented james the RPI medal that i got last year
i kinda wished i had gotten more scholarships. i applied to like...15. the guidance secretaries were all "oh you will get many do not worry". and then they realized that the scholarships are based on financial need...and i lost. i'm gonna start sounding really bitter, which i often do with scholarships, but i would like to point out that its all one big exercise in socialism. "lets give something to EVERYONE!" good job...very nice...but 100 bucks will buy you jack shit in college. when people who you KNOW are not involved in anything and take mediocre classes get much more money than you do, its discouraging and makes the system seem unfair. oh ya financial need. good job EARNING the money. and then there were the "i'm giving this scholarship to my kid" awards. nepetism (thanks for the vocab word jeff)...grr.
so i ended up missing the spaulding project graduation bus. they said 10 oclock for the departure time, and that was fine because i got out of senior awards night at 9. i got to the community center and saw them cleaning up the graduation. and no one was there. i called molly's cell and she said they left at 9 because its bike week. she said she felt terrible and i told her just to have fun and not to worry. i'm really sad i missed it, but i want her to enjoy herself because its HER project grad.
and so i needed something to do tonight. i called up jon and he is on his way over. that will certainly brighten my mood after a couple of disappointments tonight. done.
