Cool News!

This update is just cool stuff I want to comment on.

The Large Hadron Collider is preparing for injection, which will occur within months. No, it's not some new male enhancement procedure. The LHC is a particle collider that physicists use to test theories of the universe, so it's pretty special. The collider is capable of accelerating protons (10^-27kg) up to velocities so near the speed of light that they have momentums equal to that of high-speed trains. When protons collide, physicists hope to detect new particles, hopefully ones they are expecting to see. Of course, all the conspiracy-theorists predict this to be the end of the world, so I'm going to do all the things I've wanted to do before I die, like knitting wool t-shirts and shark-boxing.

I have stayed up until 2:30am for just about every single day for the past 3 months. This does not bode well, and I'm afraid the transformation into vampire has just begun.

They finally found ice on Mars a few weeks ago.  Not that decades of spectroscopic data were enough evidence. I guess we won't be 100% sure until Buzz Aldrin Jr. touches down and blends a delicious silicate daiquiri with bonafide Martian ice. In related news, Mars on Ice is performing at the local rink next week.

I was a bit off about the gasoline prices. I have yet to figure out an explanation, though the hunch is it's less-than expected demand. Nevertheless, oil reached its highest ever last Friday. The 5-year graph is quite depressing.
