Slippery When Wet
The year was 1919, and all seemed right in the world. WW I had just ended in 1918 with a Allied Victory, the Treaty of Versailles had just been settled, and those mighty Boston Red Sox had just come off their 1918 World Series Victory. However there was one problem....A flu epidemic had spread throughout the world and causing havoc. The greatest havoc that it caused was the cancellation of most of the 1919 NHL season and the complete cancellation of the Stanley Cup Playoffs....Now let's jump into our time machine back to the present.
The year is 2005, and all seemed to be going ok in the world. A free Iraq had just gone through its first ever democratic elections, President Bush was reelected, and those mighty Boston Red Sox have just come off their 2004 miracle World Series Victory....Yes it all seems right, except for this. Once again the NHL will not have a season, it will not have the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it will not have a Stanley Cup. Another epidemic has struck the hockey world, and this time it isn't the flu.......It is another kind(s) of sickness, which are: greed, arrogance, and stupidity. These 3 diseases have led to the Owners/Commissioner Gary Betman("The fat rat") and the Players Union/Bob Goodnow("The bloated whale") to not agree on a new collective bargaining agreement which has brought about the cancellation of the 2005 season, COMPLETELY!!!!!!! NO HOCKEY, NO STANLEY CUP, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when it seemed like there might be some break through during this 170+ lockout, everything came crashing down in one massive heap leaving the NHL looking like the drunken/hungover frat boy who has no clue what happened or what is going on. Because of the greed of both sides, and their complete arrogance, hockey now has a new name, the No Hockey League. So in light of this, I would like to take time to address both parties.
First the players......If you guys really love the game, how come you couldn't agree on having a salary cap, knowing that if you didn't have one the league would crumble because of lack of revenue, aka money. How come you could say that you would accept the cap and a little pay cut in order to play the game you love and to keep the league you play it in, up and running. If you also say you love the fans, they how come you didn't put aside you greed and vain conceit in order let your fans enjoy another great season. Granted I give you credit for trying to reach an agreement and for meeting without your arrogant player rep, Mr. Goodnow, who is a misleading, money grubbing, fat thief. You tried, but you still failed because you were too naive in your thinking. All you need to do was to SHUT-UP AND PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Now to the owners and Mr. Betman.............I know that you wanted the league to last and realized that a salary cap must be emplaced, however, how come everytime a proposal was made by the players, you rejected it straight up, and how come even when the players gave into your demands a little, you still rejected their ideas and never tried to reach a common ground. You were so far out of touch with you players, you had no chance on reaching an agreement because you were too concerned with your greedy, pious, holier than thou selves that you didn't want to lose more money, but save face. And you Mr. Betman, you frickin lying, pompous, little weaselly jerk. You are the biggest FOOOL of all. You made everything seem like it was ok, you relayed false info to both parties, and fans, and did nothing to reach an agreement with the players. Everytime you opened your fat mouth, you sounded more and more arrogant into where nobody wanted to hear you, and you just made the rift wider and wider. The players didn't trust you and neither do the fans. You aren't the Commissioner of the NHL, you are it's Anti-Christ. You lied, mislead, acted like you care about the fans and players, yet are more concerned with saving your own hide and buddying up with the owners and money. You lost it and you might have killed the NHL. I hope you are happy you fat, pompous, porky..............
And so folks we are left without and NHL season for the first time in along time, and for that I am sad, angry, and vindictive. I do apologize to the teams like the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Stars, Flyers, and others who wanted to both sides to shut-up and just play hockey. They wanted to play and tried to make the two sides come together, however it was all for not. So good-bye NHL for now.....maybe forever....I hope not. I would just like to say that Mr. Betman and Mr. Goodnow, and friends, you have disgraced the game, the fans, and mostly the Stanley Cup. Good Job, your selfish butts have brought your own downfall. Thank you for bringing back the flu................
