i know i haven't posted much knitting lately, but life has been busy. i am, more or less, behind on life. but i have completed some long-languishing knitting projects for - you guessed it - more kidlings.
thanks! i chose it before the baby was born and gender was known, but since the parents are big scuba people (they make their livliehood on it), i went with turquoise for the water and orange for the animal life. i hate when people make sport team associations with my knitting, but apparently the color combination relates to some sport team or other, as well.
in any case, it fits my decree to knit as few pastels for babies as possible.
I love the skirt! Did you design it yourself or have a pattern? A friend of mine just found out she's expecting, and if it's a girl I think that would be a lovely gift!
thanks! it's a pattern from a book i got from the library, and i will fill in details when i can dig up the book, author name, etc.
one warning: it's written for a fingering weight yarn. i used a dk weight, and it still took me quite a while. nevermind the fact that i ended up reknitting the thing after i ran out of yarn in the color i was using originally, so yeah, it took a long time. i wish i could see a picture of it on the recipient to see if it was worth the trouble, but i knit things large for kiddies so i have leighway for project delays coupled with growth spurts.
I typically try to make things larger than they need to be for kids, or make things that they won't row out of like blankets or toys, but this is too cute to pass up! Thanks for digging up the info for me, it wouldn't be too hard to figure out but I like having a good jumping off point :)
okay, i edited the post with skirt details. The short answer = Debbie Bliss Baby Style, page 24. it's called the Snowflake Skirt because there are emroidered snowflakes in the original pattern.
On your mention of cabled heart embellishments - check out the bottom one here :) I've never done that one myself, but her patterns are very well written and easy to follow. (I'm on my 7th version of her Rogue sweater. Oy!)
that's the exact pattern i wanted to use! the problem was that it's a bottom-up cable chart and the skirt is knit top-down. i went to the trouble of converting the skirt pattern to be bottom-up, but then i ran out of yarn and the skirt was too big, and ... yeah, i ended up skipping the heart motif. too bad, because my friend who had the baby is scottish, and it really would have been perfect.
