so, last weekend was
john & janan's wedding. i have pictures. dan had to wear a tux. the church was beautiful. it was a greek-orthodox service, so there was a whole bit with these paper crowns and walking around the altar 3 times. my least favorite part was when the priest went off on a (rather inarticulate, sounded like it was off-the-cuff) little tangent about how, although it's nice to get dressed up and have a fancy wedding & good food, too many people do it too lightly, resulting in eventual divorce, which is bad. i agree with the idea, but i don't think the church ceremony is the place, and for cripes sake, make it articulate if you're going to say it! okay, strike that. my least favorite part was the reading of a biblical passage basically saying it was the wife's role to submit to the husband, and the husband's role to love the wife. okay, enough.
i don't have too many pictures inside the church; it was a bit dark for photos, and the videographer was right in my way. but here's dan with his two bridesmaids. the number of bridesmaids/groomsmen was uneven, so dan was the only one with 2. he claims he was chosen because he's the most well-behaved, but i kept joking with him about whether he was ready to go back to having one girlfriend.
me & dan at home before heading to the church. dan commented that that's the photo spot. later, we looked back through some old family albums and saw well-dressed relatives of his from the 30's posing in that part of the yard. pretty cool.
john wasn't kidding when he said there'd be an ice sculpture! this was at the buffet during the cocktail hour.
there was lots of arabic music and traditional dancing. janan was dancing up a storm! it was very lively on the dance floor all night. there was one traditional irish tune played, and all of john's relatives danced, stomped, and clapped. it was interesting to note the similarities in the beat of the 2 styles of music.
john also wasn't kidding when he said there'd be a chocolate fountain! my favorite part of the chocolate fountain hour was the variety of liqueurs they had. the bartender fixed me up some crazy warm concoction that was quite nice.

it occured to me at the wedding that i know quite a lot of alliterative couples:
john & janan, tim & tara, tom & terri, george & gina ... and if i want to expand to non-local people, there are also my friends roni & rani.
john & janan are in fiji on their honeymoon. yeep!
