Oh, it's Christmas!
... and so I wanted to do a round-up of some lovely seasonal things.
1. A commenter suggested that 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (A Visit From St. Mofftiss) needed podficcing, and then chasingriver surprised me by actually doing it! Obviously I was delighted she would even suggest such a thing, and her podfic is now up at AO3 here. I don't generally listen to podfic, (not to mention I find listening to my own fic particularly embarrassing) but this was short, so I did. She has a lovely clear speaking voice, and the sound effects were... inspired. I think she made it sound better than it did in my head, actually. Oh, and check out the graphic, too! Also an honorary mention for her adjunct to the #sherlocklives campaign, namely #holmescestrules, just because it amuses me. For the House peeps I can only gratuitously re-pimp How (Greg) House Stole Slashfest, because I just uploaded it to AO3, and I still think it's fun *g*
2. veronica_rich generously offered up her Santa hatting skillz (again), so I asked for one of Mycroft looking suitably disapproving of all the frivolity. Hee!
3. Then glovered actually took up my insmallpackages request of "3-5 BBC!Mycroft Christmas icons", which I wasn't really expecting would be filled, since the comm is heavily weighted towards SPN. But they're gorgeous! I thought it was hilarious that she also chose disapproving!Mycroft to exercise her talents. The poor man has an image problem.
4. johanirae offered up printed personally-designed Xmas cards, and I asked for a Hannibal one, which was hilarious. You can see the comic here. It was inevitable, really.
5. Less agreeably, we do not get The Desolation of Smaug until Boxing Day, as per usual. I HATE YOU ALL. But I'm having fun reading reviews! It appears people generally approve, strangely enough...
6. So... no-one else is crazy excited by the prospect of BC playing Hamlet? Although I may end up eternally jealous of people over this. I'm kind of trusting fandom will provide *something*, though *g*
7. Oh, and if coping with Christmas wasn't enough, I'm moving house! So if I'm even more erratic than usual (in all senses), that's why. I've moved so often that I don't mind it too much, but it's still a lot of work. It's amazing how much you can accumulate in a few years, even if you do your best to keep it down. But it means I may be without internet for a few days between Christmas and New Year. Nooooo! LOL.
Hope the Christmas season is going well for you all, and I'd love to hear what you're up to. It always seems about equal parts "fun!" and "stress!" for me, especially this year *g*
Edit: wow, reading fallout on Tumblr from the BFI Caitlan Moran... thing (where she made Benedict and Martin read fanfic in front of everyone *cringe*). A lot of eloquent posts, but yeah, it sounds like she was just indulging her own sense of superiority at the expense of, well, everyone. Sigh.
