Following the directions featured here for song-inspired Obidala drabbles (fics of 100+ words). My iTunes currently has 3,196 songs to choose from, and apparently my iTunes personality is in love, so this should be fun. Enjoy! This is getting posted on the OFF as well.

SONG #1: Bones -- Editors

The system's put in place, put there to protect us
For you I'd throw a lifeline every time

"We can't do this, Obi-Wan," Padme whispered. Obi-Wan could hear the hesitance in her voice. "It's not right. It goes against your religion, it goes against the rules. Our lifestyles were set up with these rules for a reason. You know as well as I a Jedi and a senator cannot be romantically involved. It goes against everything!"

"Forget the system," Obi-Wan snapped. "Just once. Forget about the system."

"I can't, Obi-Wan!" Padme cried. "What if they find out? Everything we've worked so hard for will come crashing down!"

Obi-Wan could hear the senator's words continue on, but he had stopped listening. Enough of this. Determined to put a stop to her chatter, he wrapped his arms around Padme and dipped her.

"What are you doing?!" she demanded. "Stop-"

Obi-Wan kissed her, ignoring her protests. Soon she, too, was silent.

SONG #2: Special Cases -- Massive Attack

Take a look around the world
You see such mad things happening
There are few good men
Thank your lucky star that he’s one of them

As Obi-Wan stormed out the door of her apartment, Padme could do nothing but break down in tears. These were such horrible times. The senate had failed the Republic, the Sith had taken over and Anakin had turned against and hunted down the Jedi Order. And now on top of everything, Obi-Wan had left her too. She knew it was only a matter of time before this would come to pass, but she felt sick at the idea of losing him right after Anakin. Anakin, who had never really loved her, yet she stayed with him regardless. Obi-Wan had always loved her as she knew she should've been loved. He did not obsess over her and was not possessive of her like Anakin. Obi-Wan was a good man, and now he was gone too. He was gone because she had been a fool and stayed with Anakin. Anakin destroyed the Jedi and she still would not leave him. She knew it would have been foolish for Obi-Wan to stay with her and comfort her. She was making a terrible decision, she knew, one that would not benefit her child. She should've gone with Obi-Wan to guarantee its safety in the galaxy that was now falling apart. Now it was too late. Obi-Wan was a good man, and she left him for the worst one in the galaxy.

SONG #3: Shallow -- Hurt

I'll get it right I'll get it right
Oh sweet voice on the phone
You sound so alone
'Cause you couldn't be wasted
Yet all that I ever was
To you I am
I'm less than a man

Obi-Wan was watching the phone again. The red light was flashing on and off and the obnoxious noise was ringing in his ears. Would she ever go away? She knew he didn't want to talk to her. She knew after what she had put him through there was no way he would want to continue on with their affair. So why was she still calling? Obi-Wan felt his stomach drop as the phone silenced itself for a moment before it began to ring again.

"Bloody hell, woman," he muttered. "Leave me alone..."

But the phone calls would not stop. Finally Obi-Wan answered. She sounded upset. She sounded lonely. Served her right for running off with his apprentice after claiming to love him. He hung up on her and unplugged the phone before throwing it at the wall. He didn't want to hear her voice ever again. He didn't want to see her or speak to her or love her ever again.

SONG #4: The One You Love -- Rufus Wainwright

I'm trying, trying to tell you
All that I can in a sweet and velvet tongue
But no words ever could sell you
Sell you on me after all that I have done

"I'm sorry, Obi-Wan," Padme whispered.

"Sorry for what?" he drawled, turning away from her and walking over to the window. "Lying? Cheating? Being a general whore? Do elaborate."

"I had to. He would've killed me! And you!"

"Then maybe it would've been better for us to die?" Obi-Wan retorted. "You shouldn't have given in to him. He is dangerous and you know it. You're going to regret this."

"I don't think so..." Padme stammered.

Obi-Wan turned and smirked before heading for the door. "Foolish woman," he snapped. "You'll see he's not so nice as he pretends. And one day it will be obvious you made the wrong decision."

"Don't hate me."

"Jedi know no hatred... m'lady... but we do know pity."

And with that, he was gone.

SONG #5: Falling Down -- Muse

So I’m crawling away
'Cause you broke my heart in two yeah
No, I will not forget you

Obi-Wan knew he could not let anyone see his tears. He could not let anyone see the love he felt for the now dead senator in his arms. He could not let anyone how he had loved her with every fiber of his being from the first day they had met. No one had known-- not even her. Now he would never be able to tell her... all because she made the decision to marry Anakin. In the end it had cost her everything - the senate, the Jedi Order, the Republic she loved so much, her life. Obi-Wan let go of Padme and dragged himself into another room away from Bail and the droids. He needed a moment alone to mourn the beautiful senator he had loved for so many years without anyone's knowledge. As the tears spilled over his cheeks, he leaned against the wall, dropping to the floor within a moment.

"Why couldn't I save you?" he choked. "If I had been one more minute earlier you wouldn't be dead..."
