New Song for Pascha

Apr 15, 2014 21:48

As you may know, this week is a special and significant one for Christians. It is Holy Week, leading up to Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.

I was given an opportunity by my home church to contribute my God-given gifts to a "Journey to the Cross" experience we hold between Palm Sunday and Good Friday. It is a time of silent prayer and reflection on the suffering and abandonment Jesus faced during His last week. This year, we are considering more deeply the seven last words of Jesus from the cross.

For my part, I was moved to work on the first two, from Luke 23:34 and 43. I offered to draw a sketch for "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." As for the second last word - "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise" - I offered to write poetry. What I intended to be a verse gave birth to a complete song. I even learned a couple new things while studying the Word doing research for the lyrics.
