To bang or not to bang.

Apologies for not posting this sooner (big thanks to denyce for poking me), and EVEN BIGGER APOLOGIES for dropping the ball on this challenge last year. Some RL stuff came up that I just really didn't handle well. Still kinda dealing with the aftermath of all that ( Read more... )

1. I'm of two minds about having all these prompts and only getting half of them stories. On the one hand, I'm kind of concerned about what happens to the pieces that don't get claimed. I don't want anyone feeling like they wasted their time and effort. On the other hand, it gives artists the freedom to make more art if they want to make more, and puts less pressure on the mods who're having to run around trying to find writers for everything. Don't know, though. If there's an option for unclaimed art that isn't just leaving perfectly good fanworks out in the cold, then I'm all for it. Like, have artists write for their own prompts if they want to? Or let them do an art-only post when posting time comes around? Just as long as it doesn't get totally dropped/ignored, because that doesn't seem fair.

2. On the details issue, I was hesitant to post this question in the poll, but there were several complaints about it last round and I really wanted everyone to be able to get their side of the argument out in the open. What my personal opinion boils down to is that, in an artist-centric challenge, artists should be allowed the freedom to take the same risks writers take when writing their own claims summaries in author-centric challenges. Artists can risk too many details the same way an author can risk not giving enough info or just summarizing poorly. You don't see artists dictating the summary-writing process in a regular bang, do you? Hell no, 'cause I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly. Writers are not being forced to claim anything they don't want. If no one claims it, then no one claims it. If an artist is willing to deal with that outcome, it's THEIR art, and THEIR decision. Let them have the choice.

3. I voted for the "one strike, one round exclusion" rule, but I do see the points others have made about there not being a lot of people in this fandom in the first place who'll participate. Having it be two-three strikes seems reasonable to me, too. (And yeah, I know this includes me. I'm fine with whatever consequences you guys wanna dish out.)

So, that's my $0.02, for whatever it's worth to the new mod.
