(This one's for idioticonion, who requested a Ted/Lily theory as research for her AU fic.)

Part of what makes HIMYM so enjoyable is observing the relationships that make up the show, both romantic and platonic. Over four seasons, we’ve all fallen in love with Marshall-and-Lily, Robin-and-Barney, Ted-and-Your-Mother, and so many others. But out of all 10 ( Read more... )

Wow. Dude. You did it again.

Although you're preaching to the converted here. You knew I'd picked up on the subtext of Lily/Ted and caught pretty much all your references anyway. I really need to crack on with that AU Lily/Ted story now you've given me some ammo...

You really are the queen of HIMYM analysis.

Awesome analysis! I'm anti-Lily/Anyone-Except-Marshall (unless it's plantonic, obviously, because I love Platonic Lily/Ted and Platonic Lily/Barney) but you can't deny how fascinating exploring all these possible relationships is! :)

Nice analysis! You're right, it couldn't really happen at this point. But you researched the possibilities very well. :D The idea that Ted is using Lily as a template for his future wife is interesting. That's something I'd want to ponder more.

He clearly mistook Lily for a girl Marshall was trying to set him up with.

My memory is foggy, but wasn't he just reacting to the sight of the girl he [thought he] made out with? So he ran out because he felt guilty?

... just WHY he is marrying the woman they know as Aunt Lily, who is actually their STEPmother but he wants them to call her Mom now?!?

Haha. They could call it "How I Met Your New Mother." Snap!
