Bahrain is good. The people are also nice. But when it comes to driving licence, this place is a nightmare.
First of all, your licence from India is useless. So you need to apply for a licence here like you have never been behind a wheel. Then comes the procedure..
Here is the procejure... First apply for a learner's licence. Go thru eye test...then get a date for a theory class (yes a theory class).. then go for a theory class. then find a teacher (they are as wanted people as girls on iimk campus) who will teach u how to drive. then learn how to drive from this guy for like 18-20 hrs... then apply for a test.. then take the test.. and finally pass the test...
the probablity of failing the test is as good as Dr. Saji giving one of those smiles in the class... and u will understand the pain of the process in the fact that the place to do all this is some good 10 kms from the city... and you need to get a cab everytime which is some 600 bucks for each time... And it costs arnd 10k INR atleast.. officially to get the thing...
And just to prove how the process is jinxed.. i have already been there twice and they have rejected my application for learner's licence.. this is like the first step of the process and i have alreayd been sent back twice.. to think that i have some 3 hrs travelling and some 1200 bucks already on taxi fare is just hard to bear.. this on top of the fact that finding a teacher and passing the test is some long long time away...
There are times like this wen u feel our good ol india was so nice.. worse comes to worse you pay some bribe and work gets done.. you dont have to go thru the hassle .. but in a foreign land ... people harass you on some things just trying to take it back from you coz maybe you are doing a job they cannot just do... like this time they rejected my application coz the grammar of the letter was not correct... think abt that...
but dun worry folks..the day i get my licence.. i will have my last laugh...
