Quick weekend update:
Had a
really great art opening Saturday night. I was really nervous leading up to it (you know, about how many people would show up, etc), but it all came together great. It was so nice to see all my huge horse paintings back up on the wall- even though they're all older works, (I mean, my oldest big horse painting is about 9 years old.. crazy, huh?), they've been in storage since I've moved out west, and something about being put back on the wall for real display for all my LA friends to see was so great, like all my west coast friends got to see a piece of my past that they've always heard about and have never seen in person. That, and I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like my paintings were so happy to see the light of day again.
We had a really good turnout- it meant so much to me to have my friends show up, and I was so flattered and honored each time I saw a familiar face walk through the door. Ngoc (
ngocapella) helped cater with her amazing culinary skills, and we had a beautiful spread of of carrot cake cupcakes, caprese bites, salmon tartare on bok choy, and double chocolate chip cookies. Steve the owner supplied the beverages, and he even got some live music towards the end of the evening to come and perform which was really cool.
I unfortunately didn't have a chance to snap any photos myself, but I know a bunch of friends were walking around with cameras, so I'll have to hit them up for photos so I can post them... All the work will be up until it starts selling or for at least the next month for those who missed the reception but are in LA and want to see it. My biggest painting (Henry II) is in the front window facing Sunset Blvd, so every time I go down to Sunset, I see him from the street, which is such a cool feeling. : D
Sunday was spent sleeping in, going to see Ghost, and a nice dinner with damon watching LA Confidential, which I'd never seen before (and I enjoyed immensely!) This week I need to kick into high gear on finishing up a freelance project that I've been working on, as well as start promoting the LA Myth show, which opens next Saturday and I have a piece in. (so many openings in such a short amount of time!)
