You are the light of the world was the theme of this years Appalachia Service Project. In case you don't know, every July I go on a mission trip with my church to the Appalachian mountains. This year we were in Claiborne County, Tenneessee. We left here on July 15th and 5:00 am from my church parking lot which is off of Birch Street in White Bear Lake. We drove all day. We stopped in Indianapolis and stayed the night. When we got to Indianapolis we stopped at the church that we were staying at and then we went to this AWESOME arcade and played laser tag. My friends and I stayed up until about 3:00 am and then we decided that we were gonna get some sleep. Everyone was woken up at 5:00 am and we all packed and headed to the vans. We drove until around 2:30 pm when we arrived in Clairborne County.
The center we were staying at was pretty nice. The only bad thing was that we had to climb up three flights of stairs to get to the bathrooms and our sleeping rooms. Sunday night we got all settled in and met the staff. Monday was our first day of work with our crews. I was so excited because my crew was so amazing! It was me, Kelli, RJ, Derek, Matt, Mark, and Meg. I didn't really know any of them too well except for Kelli and Derek. I had so much fun with them though.
At first when I heard that Ben was coming I was a little worried because two years ago we were on the same crew and he knew that I liked him and he didn't talk to me at all. However, this year was way different. He talked to me so much the first few days and we got to know each other so well. He is so funny and not to mention very good looking! :) It was kind of strange though because throughout the whole week I would catch him looking at me all the time and I don't know what to think of that. I'm sure its just random and coincidence because he has a girlfriend, but it seemed weird to me.
I was really happy that my mom came again this year too. It is so nice to have someone who you love and can trust no matter what with you down there. All of the people who went are people that I can trust and love no matter what now, but they weren't like that in the beginning of the trip. Throughout the trip I became extremely close with Heather, Ben, Mark, Adam, Tracy, Nan, Kelli, Karpy, Derek, and Al. I probably won't see Ben, Mark, Adam or Karpy very much though, but I should see the rest of them a lot! Ben lives in North Branch and he races dirt bikes so I won't ever see him because he is either working, racing or with his girlfriend. Mark lives in White Bear, but he has a girlfriend and he is with her a lot. He goes to the U of M though so we are planning on meeting up and hanging out a lot!!! I'm excited!! Karpy lives in the Maht, but me and his sister don't have a good history so I doubt I will see him a lot. I found out this trip that he is dating one of my friends from target though! And Adam...well I'm not quite sure where he lives, but he works at Donnetelli's in the Maht. He is 23 or 24 and he has a reputation of dating girls way younger than him on ASP so I don't think I will see him too much. I am pumped though because we are all gonna have a little party where we are gonna smoke and drink. We also made plans for next year's ASP trip!! ;)
One of the reasons that I love ASP is because it brings me so much closer to God. This past year has been extremely hard for me and I was so close to ending my life earlier in the year. However, because of ASP, I learned that I have people who love me and are there for me no matter what and I learned that I am very fortunate and I realize that now. I am trying to stop taking things for granted and I am also trying to live my life more peacefully and christian-like. I am not going to become one of those majorly obsessed people, but I want to live more by the Bible and by my Faith.
I will never forget all of the good times I had on ASP 2006, and I will never forget the people who were on the trip with me. I love all of you so much!!!
Remember: You're a wizard Harry! :)
