i realized after i was told by multiple friends that people thought i was KIA that it might be a good idea to update on my life so people know that i am still alive.
almost another semester is complete here at valpo and although i complained about my experiences last year, i have found valpo to be a little more appealing. i think that this feeling is partially due to my involvement with photography class and the radio station. as many of you know photography and music are two of my passions in life and this semester, i have been able to share both with others.
i have really enjoyed photo class this semester not only because its a fun class, but because it has taken me to places that i would have otherwise not noticed. i have driven out to countrysides, visited small town and large cities, i have talked with interesting people, and overall i have found a new area in life that i might have never found without the help of this class.
the source 95.1 has also opened new paths for me. i currently have two dj shows with an occasional saturday night show. each one allows me to spread my music to the valpo community and that's what really matters to me. i have always wanted to spread, what i consider to be great music, to other people so that they might enjoy what i love so much. i am also part of the sports staff at the station and although its not as much fun as my dj job, it has also introduced some new friends to me. in addition, i have been asked to apply for the director of music position, where i would be one of the two people who decide what to play on the radio. that would be amazing if i got the position, but i'm sure that there are plenty of deserving candidates too.
since the first frost, i would estimate over 600 feet of water main has broke here, leaving multiple buildings without hot water or heat. of course this problem is affecting my building. apparently this past summer some genius had it in his head to release some chemical into the ground to coat the water pipes in a material that would insulate and heat the pipes so that they would not break during the winter. well they released something different and it is working the exact opposite way that they wanted it to. almost an entire side of campus is dug up right now where they are pulling out the ruptured water main and putting new pipes in. i think that 600 feet is actually too low, its probably more like 1,000 feet that has been put into the ground since the beginning.
by the way, for those of you who were looking for me over thanksgiving break, i am sorry that i didn't tell you that i was going to bloomfield hills. i go there every thanksgiving, but i guess that nobody else really knows that. for future reference, i will never be in st.johns for thanksgiving break. however, i will be around for christmas break. i am done with exams on december 15 and i will be having knee surgery on the following monday. i won't be able to do anything physically demanding over break, but if you just want to hang out we can arrange something after i can walk again.
until the next six months have past, take care.
