Diverging a bit...

After being submerged in Tumblr this past week, I've discovered that Rose fans really don't like any other companions. Just Rose. (Erm, sarcasm here.)

So how about commenting with the non-Rose companions you like, and why!

Isn't the collective age on Tumblr 14, though? I know some adults use it, but it strikes me as mostly younger kids. I mean at 14 I doubt I would have thought Nine so sexy and his darkness and angst attractive and I probably would have thought Donna was some old lady my Mom's age who liked to yell a lot and I got that enough from my Mom. So...I can see why the love isn't there. It's a question of age or maturity, probably.

Personally, I like all of the companions for many different reasons. I thought writing Martha as love-sick did her no favors, but I liked her spunk and her energy, and Ten really did do some things that he shouldn't have done. I mean, I'm sure there were ways other than kissing to do a genetic transfer and sharing a bed with her when he hardly sleeps...no mixed signals there. I like that she is unwilling to be a doormat and that she learns to stand up for herself. Martha has a lot of strength and determination and she is very smart. Not just book smart but smart smart.

I loved Donna because she took no prisoners, had compassion, was around my age (who ever heard of a companion in her 40's?), helped the Doctor to become a better person, and fought to make herself a better person even without the Doctor.

Rose I loved from the beginning because she pushed the Doctor, hard. I loved the volatility of their relationship. I loved how fierce and independent she was, yet ultimately the way she needed him (and how he needed her right back). She had fire and energy and she was modern. She wasn't helpless or screechy and she could think on her feet. She was smart despite never having gone on to college. She is so normal and yet at the same time so extraordinary. She is my favorite and I think she is why the relaunch did so well, a lot of people identified with her.

I adore Rory because he is what he is. Faithful, true, full of love, a good husband, a better ordinary man than most ordinary men, someone with a giving heart, and someone who is adaptable and can think on his feet.

I like Amy's brashness and how she just sort of bulldozes forward. I like her heart even though she hides it a lot. I really would have loved to see her with Ten. Oh, and her hair is the most amazing companion hair ever. I wish she were a bit more faithful to Rory in the beginning, but I think she overcomes that well through his steadfastness.

I like Mickey from season mid-season 2 on. Before that I really didn't like his behavior. I understand where he was coming from and all, but I didn't like how he acted. Rose was no angel to him either, but that's not the point here. I loved him from the AU storyline on and I actually was very happy when he and Martha got paired up at the end. They fit so well, their personalities would mesh and they would continue to fight aliens together without the Doctor. Probably better for both of them that the Doctor no longer touches their lives.

Jack is Jack and I will always like DW Jack. He was light and funny and sexy and amazing and he fit with Nine and Rose so well. The transition was seamless and I wish they'd had more time together. Torchwood Jack is just so sad and ruthless sometimes. But I'll take DW Jack any day of the week.

Of course I love Jackie, too. I'm not sure she counts as a companion, but she was a great, loyal, fierce mother and she challenged the Doctor in ways I don't think he had ever been challenged before. And in the end he found her worth dealing with. She became family to him almost as much as Rose did.

This comment is the best thing ever. Especially:

I really do like Amy, but it's hard for me to quantify what I like about her as opposed to the other companions. This sums it up beautifully.
