I thought I'd share some info about the upcoming election as I am filling out my ballot now.
Here's a site for that catalogs some answers of different candidates for different offices:

http://intder.wordpress.com/2006/09/12/2006-michigan-election-candidates/ Of course, the big race is the governor race. I'd like to take the usual Democratic response of I don't know, but lord, don't pick that guy. Dick Devos for governor is a very scary prospect. Coming from the perspective of an educator, let me tell you the great problems I see with Dick Devos:
Dick Devos has no political experience- The only position that DeVos was ever elected to was the State Board of Education. He quit 2 years into the 8 year term.
Dick Devos supports teaching "Intelligent Design" in classrooms. This is not even a scientific theory. There are no reputable scientists that study intelligent design. I think if you want to study "Intelligent Design," that's fine. But keep it out of the science classroom. Talk about it in Current events or comparative religion or whatever.
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060920/NEWS99/60920015 Dick DeVos was the primary financier and chairman of the 2000 Voucher ballot initiative. Ask any educator and they will tell you that vouchers are the worst idea in public education has ever seen. Currently, DeVos takes no stance on education because the idea of vouchers is so incredibly unpopular. If you look at his website, it says nothing about how to make education better.
http://www.devosforgovernor.com/Issues/Detail.aspx?ID=3 DeVos's main qualification for being elected is that he is ridiculously rich. He contributes tons of money into the political system ($4.7 Million in 2004) so he has the backing of a lot of politicians. He is being backed on the idea that he is a successful businessman, even though the success of his business lays in his father's work. Being a successful businessman, doesn't make you a good governor. The truth is, DeVos is completely unqualified for this job. No experience, lots of money.
