Am I weird because every time I listen to my Beauty and the Beast Original Broadway Cast CD, I frown with distaste? I realize that Susan Egan is too ... sarcastic for Belle, which is why she was perfect Meg. But honestly, I just really don't like the songs, except for the ones that were in the movie, No Matter What, and Human Again, but I even like the redone version of Human Again that was recorded for the Special Edition/IMAX release. True, I never saw the play live and I'm sure some of the other Belles would've suited my fancy, but the CD just doesn't sit well with me.
The funny thing is that I really adored the The Little Mermaid Broadway CD and it's one of my favorites - I don't what anyone says, I love Drew Seeley's jazz/pop version of Her Voice - and but I really don't like the Broadway version of Poor Unfortunate Souls because it just doesn't work in my opinion. And for some reason, many of the added songs to the TLM Broadway show just didn't sit with me, but I love Beyond My Wildest Dreams, One Step Closer, If Only, and The Wold Above. But still, I've never seen a Broadway play and I've never been to NYC.
I've never listened to all of The Lion King Broadway CD, but what I have listened to is amazing. And I never bothered to listen to Mary Poppins, either, but it didn't seem that bad. So I ask all of you, what are your opinions on the Broadway versions of our favorite Disney films? And for those who saw them live - including the ones in other countries and cities like Los Angeles and Las Vegas, I'm hoping to see BatB at the Pantages when it comes. Yay for discussion posts! They're my favorites and I don't think we've truly covered this topic.
