Disney Confirms 'Frozen' Being Adapted For Stage, But Maybe Not Broadway

From StitchKingdom.com

The Golden Globes that Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen took home last night for Best Animated Feature was still warm when news that Disney Theatrical was prepping to head to the Broadway stage by way of Fortune.com. The article, which spoke of the film’s momentum, does use the term ‘Broadway’ twice (once in the headline), but never directly attributes it to Bob Iger, the CEO and Chairman of The Walt Disney Company.

Unfortunately that in itself is a big leap, although it’s hard to argue that the material - mostly due to the songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez - lends itself quite well to the theatrical environment. That said, Disney Theatrical is already known to be in the process of working on several other productions and certainly not all of them will make it to the stage. Others are being developed, not for production by Disney, but for regional theatre, including Disney’s popular Broadway Junior program, which adapts shorter plays/musicals specifically for younger performers.

The article’s author has not yet responded to our request for clarification on what Iger specifically said, but Disney Theatrical has confirmed to us that Frozen is indeed ‘in early development for the stage,’ but stopped short of indicating what the final plans for the show were.
