So, I had my formal presentation for my biodiversity class today. I'd never done an individual presentation at the university level before, nor have I ever done a presentation that was 25 minutes long. Needless to say, I was anxious before I even started.
My presentation was officially titled "The Effects of Various Logging Practices on Forest Beetle Diversity" (exciting, eh?). The class is called "Current Issues in Biodiversity" and naturally, our topic was supposed to be on a current issue. As my research developed (over the last few days >.>) my talk became less about the issue of beetle diversity, and more about beetle diversity as an indicator. In the end, my presentation wasn't on an "issue", it was on "research", which is what next year's class is about
So basically, I was a year ahead, and I didn't even know it. A couple of my classmates told me I did a good job, but the best part was the praise that came from my prof. She basically told me that I succeeded in my topic, in that the "take home message" I presented in my synthesis was the one she was hoping that I would come to when I proposed the topic.
The reason why this was ironic is because I did a "rehearsal" to myself right before I had to leave for school, and it was absolutely dreadful. The words were not coming out of my mouth, and I felt like a fool. I was so nervous, nay, almost freaking out, while in my GIS and biochem lectures. I was so worried I was gonna make a complete ass out of myself during the Powerpoint and then not be able to answer any questions. Luckily, the questions were pretty tame, and my prof took up most of my question period talking about what we study in third year :3
Although I'm out of the frying pan, I'm definitely in the fire now. I have a religion paper (albeit a short one) to start and finish before 7pm, which needs to work around the 2 hour GIS lab I have tomorrow afternoon. Oh, and if I have any spare time, I think I'll study for the biochem midterm (worth %30) I have at 5:30 =P
Feh, impressing my biodiversity prof is way more important than those marks anyways :3
